Dear Customers,
In less than two weeks’ time, America’s number one food consumption day of the year will be at hand! November 24th is Thanksgiving, a veritable cornucopia of entrees, side dishes, and desserts interspersed with 4, count’ ‘em FOUR football games that last from noon till well after my bedtime! That includes the tryptophan induced nap I plan on taking at some point during the afternoon!
Until the time of Abraham Lincoln, Thanksgiving was observed on dates varying from state to state. From that point on, the final Thursday of November became “the day”. But, on Halloween, 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a presidential proclamation changing Thanksgiving to the next to last Thursday of the month. And in 1942, the holiday was amended to become “the fourth Thursday in November”. The feeling was that it would be less likely to interfere with Christmas holiday schedules and shopping to help promote the nation’s economy. In those days, Christmas shopping arbitrarily started immediately following Thanksgiving unlike today when it starts right after the 4th of July! The earlier date allowed for an extra week of Christmas shopping!
Just like Christmas shopping, grocery stores began running their Thanksgiving related specials earlier and earlier until now our Thanksgiving ad runs for TWO FULL WEEKS! That’s right, beginning on Monday, November 14th and continuing up to and including Sunday 27th, all our holiday special pricing will be in effect. That way, if payday falls on the wrong week, you’ll still be able to take advantage of all our great saving no matter when it’s most convenient for you to shop.
You may find some small differences in some of the perishable departments, but the vast majority of specials will be available for the two full weeks. Shop in comfort without feeling rushed and take full advantage of everything we have to offer!
