Dear Customers,
Two things of note are happening this week! On Thursday, the 22nd students of the Smethport Area School District report back for the start of the 2024-25 school year. If you happen to be between the ages of 5 and 18, your stomach is probably cramping up a bit right now, either with anticipation or dread!
The other thing of note, albeit of much less interest, is that I’m turning 70 years old on Friday. I know, I know, I should have retired about 5 years ago, but I truly have the best of both worlds. I only work till noon which is easy because who can’t stand 4 or 5 hours a day? And then the afternoons and evenings are all my own. I get to feel as if I contributed a little, but I also get my free time!
With school beginning in a few days, many families, particularly those with high school age children will be faced with several changes over the next few weeks. First of all, mealtimes, while definitely more regimented than during the summer season just passed, will still be subject to multi-sport practices, meets, games and matches. In the fall alone there are boys and girls cross country, football, boys and girls golf, volleyball, as well as boys and girls soccer!
Trying to get the entire family together for supper is often beyond the realm of possibility. Practices often run from just after school till 6 or 7 at night. Add in the time needed to be spent on homework and other school-related activities and its sometimes impossible to provide a wholesome meal.
