WEEK #38 SEPTEMBER 16th – 22nd

Dear Customers,

“Eating healthy is always in season!”  Or so says the headline on our corporate magazine, “In Season”.  This absolutely FREE publication is available at the end of our checkout counter in magazine form or digitally on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.  Or you can click on the “Eat Right for Life” link on our website, www.costassupermarket.com

In Season is published quarterly in February, May, August and November.  This gives the recipes inside a distinctive seasonal flavor.  February is just in time for Easter, May – the summer season – August is ripe with back to school and autumn suggestions and of course, November is concerned with the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas!

It is literally chock-full of simple-to-prepare recipes and nutritional information to go along with them.  On Page 1, just inside the front cover in every issue, is a letter from their registered dietician and nutritionist, Debra Heverling MA, RD/LDN.  I’ve actually spoken with her on the phone and she’s anxious to answer any questions you may have.  There is an area in the Eat Right for Life link where you can submit your questions directly to Debra and she will reply!  In today’s often impersonal world, where you generally get a computer or a call center on the phone, I find that kind of interaction refreshing and extremely helpful, particularly if someone in your household suffers from food allergies.

How is it that a magazine this helpful and full of supportive information is completely FREE to you?  Well, as you’ll notice there are several advertisements sprinkled throughout the pages.  The advertisers want to make sure you use their products so instead of a recipe calling for 1½ cups of shredded sharp cheddar, the directions call for 1½ cups of “Sargento” shredded sharp cheddar!  And likewise, “pepper sauce” becomes Franks RedHot Cayenne Pepper sauce – 8oz of cream cheese becomes 8oz of Philadelphia Cream Cheese.

You aren’t bound by these suggestions, by any means.  Often a private label or generic brand will fit the bill – and save you a little money at the same time.  The important thing is that you take advantage of all the helpful information between these covers!
