Dear Customers,
Ahhhh, the ubiquitous Apple! Mentioned down through history from the Garden of Eden to the present. Apples originated in Central Asia, traveling from there to Eurasia and finally making their debut in North America thanks to European colonists. At last count, there are over 7,500 varieties of apples in the world and that number only promises to increase as botanists and horticulturists readily combine existing varieties to create new ones!
Apples are great, all by themselves – right off the tree, but you add some to a recipe and that’s where they shine. I’m not a big “cake” fan when it comes to desserts. I know I’m probably in the minority, but I choose pie over cake any day – cherry preferably. But there’s one cake I just cannot resist: my mother-in-law’s Apple Cake. It’s moist (very important – nothing worse than a dry cake), flavorful and chock full of apple chunks then topped with a delicious cream cheese frosting. Recently, she presented me one on my birthday but there were so many dessert fans in attendance, I got about a half-piece when all was said and done!
We pre-ordered several varieties of Field-Tote Apples at the recent Food Show in August: Cortland, Macintosh and Honey Crisp are the popular favorites. They are displayed just inside the front door along with apple cider, apple dips and candy apples! Apples will no doubt be featured in our ads for the next several weeks as October is known as National Apple Month.
Join the celebration and whip up your own apple pie. You say your crust isn’t as good as you’d like it to be? No problem. . . that’s why the Pillsbury Dough-Boy invented refrigerated pie crusts. They come in two packs, and they roll out perfectly to fit your pie pan! Still didn’t come out just the way you like it? Not to worry, you have plenty of time to make several more before the calendar switches to pumpkin!
