Dear Customers,
The Pilgrims had plenty to be thankful for on that first Thanksgiving! The’d left their homes and families, traveling more than two months across a turbulent sea to a hostile land. By the following autumn, having made friends with the local Indian tribes and having suffered a harsh winter, they held what later became known as the first Thanksgiving.
Sometimes, when life gets you down it can get difficult to think of something to be thankful for. When I get like that, I try to remember what my friend, Pat Foley, said to me many years ago that puts things into perspective. We had gone over to Olean to play racquetball on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and I was bemoaning the fact that I had to work Thanksgiving morning from 7am – 1pm, as I did every year in those days, when everyone else I knew had the entire day off!
Without getting too graphic and editing his comments for the sake of my PG audience, Pat reminded me how fortunate I was to even have a business to go to and that I should shut up and be thankful! I never complained about having to go to work again.
I’m positive, if you just take a few moments and really think about all your blessings, it shouldn’t be difficult to find reason to pause and say a silent prayer of thanks.
And for your convenience, Costa’s Supermarket will be open on Thanksgiving Day, as we have been for decades – from 7am till 1pm for your last-minute shopping and so that our employees can be home with their families by early afternoon.
From the Costa family to yours, may you enjoy a blessed and thankful holiday!
