Dear Customers,
As February slips away into the past, we get daily closer to the season of spring. By the end of this week, we will usher in March and with it – be it lion or lamb, the welcome appearance of bulbs poking their heads timidly out of the snow. The days are noticeably longer and if you’re fortunate, you might even catch the first faint sound of peepers along the creek!
We’re merely a little more than a week away from the season of Lent which means that Easter can’t be far off. Easter Sunday is April 20th, to be exact, which is relatively late this year. In fact, the latest date that Easter can ever occur, thanks to a complicated formula, is April 25th – which won’t happen again until 2038!
I’m getting ahead of myself because here we are, still mired in February. We’ve had some snow, some ice, plenty of dull gray skies, and sub-zero temperatures. Surviving January and February gives us a new appreciation every year when temperatures begin to moderate and Earth’s tilt on its axis brings longer daylight hours.
As I write this, nearly a month before it goes to print, I have no idea what that insidious groundhog predicted even though as far as you’re concerned, it happened last weekend! The funny thing about winter is that even when the winds are howling, the temperatures plummet into single digits and the skies feel like we’re living under a steel gray shield, you know – and can take comfort in the fact – that Winter is no match for the sun!
When Ol’ Sol focuses his warmth on the eaves of your home, no icicle-no matter how long and ominous – stands a chance. No matter how thick the snow cover in the back lawn or how packed down the ice on your driveway has become, a day or possiblY two of unrelenting sunshine can defeat it!
To quote Bill Murray in Caddyshack, “So we got that goin’ for us . . . which is nice!”
